Rippling effects of increased megapixel cameras. first hand....

So I go to my usual mom and pop store, wanting to print some 8x10's. I give him my jpegs, and he literally looks at me, and asks.... "are you for real?". jpeg files that are30mbs....?
I explain to him that it seems nikon's new cameras are headed that way. He complains and says that he has to upgrade his computer now....
    Cheers!

Imagine what will happen to those little kodak kiosks in wal mart when uncle bob sticks his 32G memory card in the machine. Bye bye Johnny Five!!!!!!

it's already ridiculous. I see people there and loading up hundred of photos from their cameras, like they've never emptied their cards before and try to print out 500-700 photos each visit. Ridiculous and tedious.

isn't it more efficient? let's say there were shots from 10 family events on that camera.. isn't it more practical to go once... spend the time and print one time, rather than go there 10 times?

so here's my question kin... if you knew you were to print 8X10s... why do you need to set your photos at FULL raw? isn't there a setting to dial down the RAW size?

That's the thing. How long will it take that little kiosk to process 500-700 30MB files. the machine will go Maximum Overdrive on you

(I hope you're all getting my bad 80's movie references)

ha ha, fair point. Just not efficient for those people standing in line waiting for those people to finish removing red eye from 500 photos!! ha ha

Right. My RAWs are 17.5 MBs. My finished JPEGs are only about 3.5 MB at the same resolution.

There is a setting to let me dial down the megapixels.... but shooting at 36, lets me crop the hell out of a picture until I'm happy with it lol...... I call this the Noob factor.
    Cheers!
