seriously! Or wait for the D650 or D470, given that Nikon is trying to jam as many in between models as possible

Well, it makes sense. Instead of releasing new firmware, they'll just release new bodies lol

    This is Canons: T3, T4i, 60D, 7D, 5D3, 1Dx
    This is Nikons: D3200, D5100, D7000, D400, D600, D800, D4

So I don't see why 1 more camera would make such a big difference. There are rumors that they are probably going to remove the 5xxx for nikon. So essentially its going to be 6 and 6 camera. I don't know how realistic it is for Nikon to throw in a D4x since D800 can do the job. D4s also seems doubtful since the D4's performance already > D3s.

Not to mention, 70D, 7D2 are both coming out soon... and Canon also wants to throw in an entry level FF.

    Ed,

One thing I don't understand is why you keep picking D60?

    D60 is the upgrade model for D40 , the consumer model. The lineage goes like D50, D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100 and D3200.

At some point both D40 and D60 are selling together, just like D90 and D7000 are both on the market when D7000 initial roll out.

ha ha, sorry. I dont have any personal issue with the D60, but the resulting consensus was that it was stuck as an "in-betweener" and didn't sell that well. The D90 was a great model with the video feature and the D40 sold great because it was lightweight and good low light, vacation camera. The D60 never really took off because it got squeezed in the middle. I am just using that as an example.

News about the D600 makes me happy as a Nikon owner.... udpated specs, see below.

The release probability of the Nikon D600 for Photokina is now at 99%. Here is an updated list of the specifications (new additions in bold):

    •Very small and lightweight body
    •16 bit image processing
    •Expeed 3 processor
    •Maximum video recording: 30 minutes
    •Built-in mic
    •19 scene modes
•Magnesium alloy only on top and back only
    •Maximum shutter speed of 1/4000
•Shutter life: 150,000 cycles (the D800 is rated for 200,000 cycles)
