It's making me think how nikon and canon are targeting their audience. While canon is trying put their pro cameras OUT of reach of regular/hobbyist photogs by pricing them higher, nikon seems to be doing the reverse, they're trying to put more cameras in the hands of regular consumers.

no matter how expensive the gear. The market for consumer will always be higher than the pro market.
Targeting the high end consumers, and the introduction of cheaper fx lenses (already in the works) actually makes sense.
    Cheers!

The D700 and now, D800, is flying off the shelves. They never had a problem selling that model line. Why cut into your own lucrative premium prices by producing a lower cost version of the same model? People clamouring to get FF seem to make the jump, even at the $2700-3000 range
Buying a cheaper full frame will lure people into buying expensive lenses... so it works out in the end.

Maybe this is the beginning of the end for digital SLR's. It won't be that long until Canon and Nikon adopt mirror less for their prosumer and eventually pro lines.

So apparently rumors for specs are this:
    - Low priced
    - 24MP
    - No AF in Body
    - HD Video

I'm not surprised they are taking out AF in body. This means that they will start forcing people to get new lenses (which I presumed 2 posts ago). For some people, it wouldn't matter much.

    I assume full frame

The costs should be low, but if it passed the 1300 range down, you will eat up your d7000, d400 range

Sounds to me like the rumored 600 and the rumored 400 may be the same thing.

Enough space between the $1100 D7000 and $3000 D800 to squeeze in 2 bodies if Nikon really wanted to do that. Maybe a D7100<D400<D600<D800<D800E progression.

i dont see it. at that level, a couple hundreds dollars difference wont do it. People would just pay the extra couple hundred and get the D800 instead.

I think D600 will be worse than D400.
