Canon finally announced the latest version of my most favorite lens!!

Canon EF 24-70 F2.8L II USM (http://5dx.ca/canon-24-70-ii/)

I was surprised though that it didn't have Image Stabilization that was previously rumored. Oh well... I am still buying it!

What is the "real" benefit above the mkI?

What is the "real" benefit above the mkI?

from what I have read:

- completely redesigned optics, so quality, clarity and durability is better than the 1st
- It extends @ 70mm... the previous one extends at the wide side @ 24mm
- a bit smaller than the 1st version...reduced distortion on the entire zoom range.
- minimized CA (chromatic aberration) and color blurring..
- will be SHARP SHARP SHARP :)
- zoom lock lever
-water and dustproof

i don't think these benefits justify the $1000 markup though..

I was hoping that it'd be stabilized at least. It would have justified the 1k markup. The only benefit that I see from this is the redesigned optics...pending of course to reviews.
