OK, with the warm weather coming along, I'm starting to think about setting up the BIG shoots for the summer. I thought i'd post a couple ideas i have been working on to see if one of them has any interest for a possible BIG shoot event! Time to step it up to the big time! LOL Looking to shoot late June or early July.

Obviously, there will be a larger cost involved, but shared it might not be too bad.

So let me know if there is interest and which idea.

Theme: HOLLYWOOD

Idea #1: Vintage Hollywood!

I was thinking go back to the old 50s style glamour golden age hollywood and play off that behinds the scenes look. I searched on google and found a set by Norman Jean Roy for Vanity Fair in 2006 that is similar. Maybe play with the idea, and do a fun set as well as a glamour set, like a Tarzan behinds the scene or something silly and fun as well. Here,s my favorate shot from her set as an example:

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Wrb3lqGP9oc/TMVscqVUipI/AAAAAAAAAOM/xl3xBU3ukA0/s1600/2006-Gemma-Ward-George-Clooney-Vanity-Fair-Nov-03-by-Norman-Jean-Roy.jpg

I've already got maybe two models interested (one female, one male) but will leave it open for now too. Costs will include wardrobe if we cant source a stylist, and props (camera, tracks, items, etc.)

Idea #2: Fast and Furious!

I actually had this idea together last year but sadly it got rained out TWICE!!

Imagine a F&F street race scene shot with better camera and lighting. Should be an insane crazy scene to shoot from!

I had 3 gorgeous models set up last year (one flag girl, one bad ass driver, one spectator roles). and two import car clubs on board totalling 30 (THIRTY!) modified cars to go! Like i said, it got rained out twice and it fell apart due ot cold weather setting in. My biggest shoot and it got derailed by bad weather! Booo!!! Thinking of trying again. This will involve less costs but more coordination and require much help in planning, etc. and lights donated to light a big scene!

Examples:

http://www.hotflick.net/flicks/2003_2_Fast_2_Furious/2003_2_Fast_2_Furious_003.jpg

So let me know what you think. Just an idea for a HUGE event for the new forum. Otherwise, i might go ahead with both on my own anyway LOL

(** given the nature of these shoots and complexity, it will be reserved to those with several shoots with models, sets previously, and/or one of my lighting workshops. Sorry, just to make sure every gets the most out of the shoot, people should know enough to make it really worthwhile!) :)

Given the scale of this project, are you looking for assistants for setting up stuff and to work the lights etc? I would be interested in helping with that as opposed to actually shooting.

I say we start with the hollywood shoot. It seems a bit easier to organize and at least we can work out all the little nitty bitties for a bigger shoot like the fast and furious one.

chopper
03-23-2012, 10:31 AM
Ha, i'm only thinking of doing ONE as a group shoot, depending on interest, etc.

The other one i'd still do on my own since both of these were on my "list" of shoots to do anyway. :)

i prefer doing the hollywood one as well... the 2fast2furious scene looks too 'busy' for my taste :)

yeah, i see that. However, it would also give so many interesting points to shoot, with so many people and interesting cars around to shoot, if the scene is well lit. Not to mention, these gatherings tend to attract a lot of flashy girls hanging around too so it could be a crazy scene to photo.

Why not an Ocean's 11 or Ocean's 12 scene, which would be a good Hollywood Theme

Im looking around for vintage movie prop sources. If anyone has any leads, please let me know. Vintage Camera and tracks, loudspeaker-cone, director chairs that fold, etc.

sounds good. Why don't you set one up like that? I'm sure you'll get lots of volunteers from the responses above for models :)

Maybe we can put together a list of stuff that's needed for the shoot and everyone can try to contribute something? I'd suggest if we're going to make a big shoot like this work, we'll need to plan it out very carefully as it's a fairly large undertaking.

chopper
04-13-2012, 01:16 PM
Dont worry, i'm an excellent planner and a bit obsessive compulsive ha ha ha

I am exploring the viability of the props, which are the biggest pieces before i can determine if this is viable or not. The models, clothes, etc. will be lesser concerns if the main pieces are acquirable.

the items i listed above are the key pieces. And a track for the camera dolly too would be amazing to find. Aside from that, a secondary set for fun like Tarzan or a 50s Space movie (bad space suits, or tarzan vines would work).

Cool... but sadly vintage James Bond films were more 60s and 70s. We are going back to the 1930-1950s era of golden Hollywood.
