So in a total boneheaded move yesterday, I let my camera swing around me on my fake blackrapid strap while reaching into my car. The lens struck the side of door and the lens cap went flying off. To my great unhappiness, I noticed that the front of the lens took a nasty ding and now the filter thread have a v-shaped pinch in one area. Optically didn't seem to do any damage but there's no hope in fitting a filter on there now.

Anyone have any experience with Gentec? Not that this would be covered by warranty but any problems with them working on a US lens? I'm going to give them a call and see if they can give me a ball-park on what it would cost to fix but man am I bummed about my own silliness

A painful hit. I've heard nothing but good things so far from Gentec. I have a Sigma 17-35 that I need to repair as well. I'm thinking about going there also

So called them. Great experience on the phone, very polite and interested in hearing what happened. Obviously without the lens in front of him he couldn't give exact estimate but said it would be in $90 to service the lens and probably $20 to $30 dollars for the replacement parts if there were no issues with the optics. I did use the lens the rest of the day at the ROM and didn't see anything wrong with it so now I'll just need to find some time to head up there to get it serviced.
